Dear friends and members of the CCCC,
Greetings in the love and grace of our Lord Jesus!
The Board of Directors notified all members of the Conference of a proposed name change in April 2024. The proposal was also introduced on a website, www.centerpointconference.org. The notice stated that the proposal would be presented to the delegates for consideration at the 2024 annual meeting.
We sponsored two online Open Forums to discuss the proposal. We also held an Open Forum at the Annual Gathering. After consideration of the input from the Open Forums and numerous interactions via email and telephone, the Board decided to dedicate an entire business session to discuss this proposal. This meeting took place on Thursday, August 1st. Several significant actions were taken at this meeting:
• A motion was made and seconded to change the name of the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference. The floor was opened to discuss the motion. It was announced that this would be a non-binding vote to give direction to the Board as to how to proceed. At the conclusion of the discussion, the motion was approved by an overwhelming voice vote.
• A motion was made and seconded to accept the proposal of the name “Centerpoint” or “Centerpoint Conference.” (This is an amended motion, that was adjusted through friendly amendment.) The motion was further amended to affirm the proposal of the new name “Centerpoint Biblical Congregational Conference.” The floor was opened to discuss the motion. It was announced that this would also be a non-binding vote to give direction to the Board as to how to proceed. The question was called, and paper ballots were distributed to delegates. The motion was approved by a vote of 100 “yes” votes, 29 “no” votes, and one abstention.
• In accordance with Article XII of the Constitution, David McKinley, presented a proposed amendment to the Constitution that reads, “I propose to change the name of the organization from the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference to Centerpoint Biblical Congregational Conference in Articles I and VI of the Constitution.” This proposed amendment was publicly read to the delegates by the Recording Secretary, Susan Moody, to fulfill the one-year notification required in Article XII. The proposed amendment will be voted on at the 2025 annual gathering to be held in Orlando, Florida on August 4-7, 2025. A two-thirds favorable vote of the delegates is required for adoption.
We ask you, as members of the Conference, to prayerfully consider this proposed name change. We will introduce some specific prayer initiatives over the next year related to this proposal. We will also consider various formats to discuss the proposal before the 2025 Annual Gathering.
In Christ’s name,
Rev. Dr. Ronald E Hamilton – Conference Minister
Rev. Scott L Nice – President
